Revision of H2020 guesses from Tue, 2013-09-03 22:20

An outsider’s gleaning of H2020

  • SME inclusion (mandatory levels of participation & ring-fenced budget, 15 - 20% in the last round of FP7);
  • International co-operation is likely to be available in all topics;
  • Dissemination through open-access to enhance sustainability;
  • Big data are central to thinking, especially in environmental monitoring;
  • Larger collaborative proposals rather than many competing consortia;
  • DG Connect is focused on HPC and large-scale infrastructures (e.g. PRACE, GÉANT) -  more top-down than bottom-up;
  • No sign of recognition of the importance of small data crucial for linking resources, such as taxonomic names;
  • Projects are expected to enhance job creation and evidence-based policy production;
  • Large themes (waste, water, ecosystem management) are carrying through from FP7 to H2020.
